Inmates engage in reckless s3xual activities after 3 weeks of blackout in Yobe prisons

Inmates and correctional law enforcement officers of medium and security custodian centres in Potiskum have been thrown into lingering blackout following the disconnection of light by the Yola Electricity Distribution Company (YEDC).
Neptune Prime reports that the blackout which has lasted for 3 weeks has led to a rampage of homosexuality and lesbianism amongst the inmates at the yard and grounded many businesses that are relying on power at the staff quarters.
Some correctional officers who spoke to Neptune Prime not only condemned the inmates’ sexual attitude but lamented the continued inability of the authority concerned to restore the power in other to overcome the problem.
Some officers who don’t want their names to be mentioned said before the staff of the quarters contributed ₦2,000 and delegated one of them to give it to YEDC.
“The light of the staff quarters and the prison yard used to be different but later on, the light of the yard was disconnected and connected it with that of the staff quarters.
“We are in blackout for about 21 days now. As we are talking to you now, there is no light in the whole of the prison yard and the female inmates were too congested.
“Disconnecting the light has contributed to the increase of homosexuality and lesbianism activities amongst the inmates.
“There is no single solar light (security light) in the whole of the prison yard that is working. We have a generator that will occupy the whole of the correctional facility but was not put into use for the past 6 years as we are talking to you.
“The only thing the generator needs to start functioning effectively is battery and fueling (Diesel),” the officers said.
They plead for urgent attention to resolve their predicament and that of the inmates respectively.
Efforts to speak with the Regional Manager of Yola Electricity Distribution Company (YEDC) Damaturu Business Unit proved abortive as he said to have travelled for the Sallah break.
Neptune Prime gathered from an undisclosed source from the YEDC, Damaturu Business Unit that there is an agreement between the YEDC and the correctional law enforcement officials in place.
He said,” They promised to settle their bill in March 2023 but failed to fulfil it which lead to disconnection of the power supply across their facility in Potiskum, Nguru and Gashua in Yobe State”.
