Adamawa NLC decries hike in price of electricity tariff

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) in Adamawa State has decried a hike in the price of electricity tariff in the state.
Emmanuel Fashe, the NLC Chairman in the state stated this during the 2023 May Day celebration in Yola.
He said that the electricity tariff particularly in the state has been hiked without even the light being enjoyed by people in the state.
Fashe expressed the need for Gov. Fintiri to take action in addressing the challenge and ensuring the provision of decent workplace and protection of workers and citizens.
“Your Excellency Sir, during May Day last year we complained about the laying off of experienced staff of the Yola Electricity Distribution Company (YEDC) by its management Quest Company and the exorbitant billing from the company on consumers.

“They have failed to leave up to their cooperate social infrastructure and employment of experts within the host community and even the provision of light is still epileptic despite paying exorbitant bills,” he said.
He further commended Fintiri for injecting N500 million into the local government pension, partial implementation of a new minimum wage, and release of promotions for primary school teachers.
Fashe also expressed the need for the review of civil service rules every five years.
According to him, the rules were reviewed 15 years ago in the state in spite of the provision of reviewing it every five years.
He urged Gov. Fintiri to continue to accord priority to the welfare of workers.
In his remarks, Gov. Ahmadu Fintiri promised to continue to accord priority to the welfare of workers within the available resources.
Fintiri who was represented by his Chief of Staff Prof. Maxwell Gidado said his administration have done a lot for the civil servants especially the timely payment of monthly salary and payments of retirement benefits among others.
Fintiri further salutes the labour veterans in the state and assured them of a sustainable relationship while urging them to remain open for direct dialogue.
