The aftermath of new governments and positions jostling, by Usman Yusuf Dole

It is a popular bandwagon that after the emergence of a new government, many individuals; the quacks, weak, strong, the good, and the bad jostle to seek new positions. Largely people succeeded to get employed, courtesy of interests and the normal way of who colonizes you and who recommended you.
More or less, this is a sensitive time we may find ourselves in trouble if quacks and incompetent persons get recruited especially in key positions. That is when we begin to ask ourselves, is it the change we voted for? Mr President changed after he assumed office? did he forget all the promises he made? and certainly, the answer will remain No, it’s as a result of recruiting the wrong ones.

However, the excellencies (President or Governor), cannot be everywhere to deliver their campaign promises and administrative blueprints by themselves, so other individuals will be duly entrusted to do the job accordingly. Sadly, it is the most crucial job recruitment, yet it is recklessly done based on referrals, sentiments, affiliation, personal interests, and the rest.
It is the only type of job jostled without beckoning on personality, track records, and experience/professionalism. It is only in Nigeria, a barrister will be appointed as Minister of Transport, a medical Doctor will be appointed as education minister, or compromised individuals with clean EFCC records will be appointed to the most sensitive positions. In the case of re-elected government, worst performing individuals get reappointed or even upgraded without previous assessments.
By and large, no elected figurehead leader will love to fail after unprecedented campaign tours and promises. However, reckless appointments without checks and proper performance examination will inevitably lead us to failure.
Finally, l hope the figurehead leaders will ponder over their selection of key lieutenants that will represent their vision and mission in governance.
