NECO announces results for 2023 National Common Entrance Examination with outstanding achievements
The National Examinations Council (NECO) has officially announced the release of the results for the 2023 National Common Entrance Examination (NCEE) into unity colleges.
This highly anticipated examination serves as the gateway for admission into Junior Secondary School (JSS 1) of Federal Unity Colleges.
The announcement was made by David Adejo, the Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Education, during a press briefing where he received the results from Prof. Ibrahim Wushishi, the Registrar of NECO, according to the National News Agency of Nigeria.

A total of 72,865 pupils registered for the NCEE, indicating an increase in participation compared to the previous year. The examination was conducted on June 3 across Nigeria, Benin Republic, and Togo. Lagos State recorded the highest number of registrations with 18,644 pupils, while Taraba had the lowest number with 102 pupils.
Significantly, this year’s examination witnessed more female students taking part, with 38,801 girls registering compared to 34,064 boys. This positive trend demonstrates progress in bridging the gender gap. Out of the registered candidates, 69,829 pupils actually sat for the examination, while 3,036 were absent.
Impressively, six pupils achieved the remarkable feat of scoring the lowest mark of one (01) in the examination. On the other end of the spectrum, 76 pupils obtained the highest score of 203, showcasing their exceptional abilities.
During the briefing, Adejo commended NECO for flawlessly administering the examination. He emphasized that this achievement indicated a commendable improvement in the council’s delivery of examinations.
Furthermore, he reassured everyone of the Ministry of Education’s commitment to ensuring that the admissions process is concluded promptly.
Acknowledging the significance of Federal Unity Colleges in the education landscape, Adejo highlighted that they have become the top choice for most parents in the country.
He acknowledged the existing challenges in terms of infrastructure, feeding, and teacher quality, but assured the public that the federal government is diligently working towards creating a conducive environment for effective teaching and learning in these institutions.
The release of the NCEE results marks a significant milestone for the pupils who participated in the examination. It opens up new opportunities for them as they progress in their educational journey and serves as a testament to their hard work and dedication.
