Tensions rise as EFCC, CCB target Kano Anti-Corruption Chairman

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB) have jointly called upon Muhuyi Rimingado, the Chairman of the Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission (PCACC), to answer questions regarding the commission’s finances.

Recently, Mr. Rimingado publicly announced that he had conducted a forensic analysis of videos allegedly showing the former governor of Kano State, Abdullahi Ganduje, receiving a stack of dollars believed to be a bribe.

In response, Mr. Ganduje secured an interim order preventing the anti-corruption agency from investigating him, his family, or any of his political appointees.

However, it seems like a countermove by Mr. Ganduje, as both the EFCC and CCB have initiated parallel investigations into Mr. Rimingado’s activities at the commission.

The EFCC, in a letter dated August 8, 2023, stated: “The Commission is conducting an investigation that necessitates seeking specific clarifications from your office.

“2. The Director should provide the following information:

“II. Details of the total funds allocated to your office by the Kano State Ministry of Local Government from 2019 to 2021, including contracts executed and the details of beneficiary accounts.”

Simultaneously, the CCB, in a letter dated August 16, 2023, has requested Mr. Rimingado to provide the bureau with records of recoveries, forfeitures, and the management of the commission’s finances from 2016 to the present date.
