Tinubu’s decision to shift PenCom, FRSC, 18 more agencies to SGF’s office raises concerns
There is growing unease within the Federal Civil Service following President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s decision to reportedly transfer oversight of 20 agencies and parastatals to the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), according to sources at News Point Nigeria.
This move has triggered speculation among top officials and directors in the civil service, who view it as a potential precursor to significant staff changes within these agencies.
As per the official website of the SGF’s office, the following agencies are now under its direct supervision:
National Pension Commission
Federal Road Safety Corps
Bureau Of Public Enterprise
National Commission For Refugees
Nigerian Christian Pilgrims Commission
National Hajj Commission Of Nigeria
National Energy Council
National Lottery Trust Fund
National Agency For Control Of Aids
Nigeria National Merit Award
National Lottery Regulatory Commission
Nigeria Atomic Energy Commission
New Partnership For African Development (NEPAD)
SERVICOM
Federal Character Commission
Revenue Mobilization, Allocation and Fiscal Commission

It comes as a surprise that the National Hajj Commission is included in this list. In June, President Tinubu had returned both the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria to the supervision of Vice President (VP) Kashim Shettima’s office. However, the National Hajj Commission now appears on the list of agencies overseen by the SGF.
A Director of Administration from one of the aforementioned agencies, speaking on the condition of anonymity, confirmed awareness of these changes but stated that they had yet to receive an official circular regarding the matter.
Contradicting this perspective, another source within the SGF’s office, a director, commented, “There are no such plans by the government. This discrepancy appears to be an issue with the website’s management, and no official change has been communicated. If any such change were to occur, I would be aware, but as of now, it seems to be based on outdated information.”
Efforts to obtain statements from the Director of Information in the Office of the Vice President, Olusola Abiola, and the Director of Information in the Office of the SGF, Willy Bassey, were unsuccessful, as text messages and calls remained unanswered at the time of filing this report.
