Anambra rescues pregnant teens from baby trafficking ring
Anambra State has successfully rescued three pregnant girls from a baby factory and child trafficking syndicate located in Umunze, Orumba South Local Government Area of the state.
The rescued individuals include a 14-year-old from Arondizuogu (Imo), a 20-year-old from Bayelsa, and a 19-year-old from Ihite Orumba in Anambra. Shockingly, their unborn babies were slated to be sold for N300,000 each upon delivery.

The Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Welfare, Mrs. Ify Obinabo, disclosed to newsmen on Wednesday in Awka that this commendable rescue operation followed a meticulous three-month investigation.
This investigation was conducted by operatives from the Anambra Vigilance Group (AVG) in collaboration with the Transition Committee Chairman of Orumba South council area, Mr. Neville Uchendu.
Obinabo emphasized that a suspect, identified as Oruchukwu Okoroafor from Arondizuogu in Anambra, who ran the syndicate, had been apprehended.
She stated, “I commend the Orumba South Local Government Council chairman and the vigilance group for dismantling the syndicate after a thorough three-month investigation of the suspect. I assure you that the apprehended suspect will not evade justice; we will hand him over to the police for further investigation. He must face the consequences of his crime. I call on residents to emulate the Orumba South council chairman in making Anambra a livable and prosperous homeland.”
When interviewed, the girls clarified that the suspect was not responsible for their pregnancies but had offered to shelter them in his house until their delivery dates.
The suspect promised to secure jobs for them and provide each of them with N300,000 after they had given birth to their babies.
Regarding his involvement, the suspect informed newsmen that he had been engaged in this illicit business for two years and that the rescued girls were his first clients in 2023.
He added, “The prospective buyers of the unborn children have already committed to paying N300,000 per child, but I do not possess their contact information.”
