Russian artillery strikes in Ukraine claim three lives, injure four

Russia launched artillery and missile strikes in eastern and southern Ukraine on Friday and Saturday, resulting in the deaths of at least three people and injuries to four others, according to officials.

These strikes occur as both sides gear up for a challenging winter of combat, with Russia attempting to quell a Ukrainian counteroffensive aimed at reclaiming occupied territory.

On Friday, Russia fired hundreds of shells into areas of the Kherson region in the south that are under Ukrainian control, as reported by the local governor, Oleksandr Prokudin.

He stated, “The Russian military hit residential areas of the region’s settlements. As a result of Russian aggression, one person was killed and one more was wounded.”

In separate attacks, the head of Ukraine’s central Dnipropetrovsk region revealed that Russia launched a missile at a group of dachas, which are a type of cottage, in Kryvyi Rig, President Volodymyr Zelensky’s hometown.

This strike led to the tragic death of a 60-year-old man and left a woman seriously wounded.

Sergiy Lysak, Dnipropetrovsk governor, mentioned, “She is in a serious condition in hospital. The attack caused a fire, which rescuers have already extinguished”.

Lysak further reported on Saturday that Russian artillery strikes on Nikopol, a city with a population of about 100,000 situated along the Dnipro River, had claimed the life of one individual.

Nikopol’s mayor, Oleksandr Sayuk, expressed his sorrow, saying, “The enemy has once again fired on peaceful Nikopol with heavy artillery. Unfortunately, a man died as a result of the attack”.

In addition to these incidents, Russian shelling near Kupyansk in Ukraine’s northeastern Kharkiv region and strikes on Avdiivka in the eastern Donetsk region left at least two people injured on Friday, according to officials.

The fighting and shelling in and around Avdiivka have intensified in recent weeks, as Russia seeks to encircle and capture this strategically significant town.
