Church Reverend takes his life as adultery scandal unfolds on church whatsapp forum
Reverend Oscar Mukahanana, a United Methodist Church leader, took his own life after an adulterous affair came to light within the Harare East District in Zimbabwe.
Mukahanana, who held the position of District Superintendent, was involved in an extramarital relationship with a female youth within the church.
The scandal unfolded when an audio recording of a secret meeting and conversation between Mukahanana and the woman was leaked on the church’s WhatsApp group.
In the recording, he expressed satisfaction over their encounter, mentioning it took place just before the woman’s menstrual cycle.
Once the audio was shared in the WhatsApp group, church members began to forward it to other groups, subjecting Mukahanana to mockery.
Local media even joined in by creating memes that ridiculed the District Superintendent over his involvement in the adultery scandal.
Overwhelmed by humiliation and embarrassment, Mukahanana tragically took his own life on a Friday, unable to bear the shame.
The UMC Harare District issued a statement confirming his death, saying, “It is with heavy heart to announce to you the untimely death of our Beloveth District Superintendent Rev Oscar Mukahanana of the Harare East District.

“The Office of the Bishop shall be informing the church of developments and funeral arrangements. As a Church, you are being cordially requested to support the Mukahanana family through your prayers.”
