Customs CG pledges to work with stakeholders for swift cargo clearance at ports

Nigeria’s Comptroller-General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi MFR, held a vital meeting in Lagos on 6 November 2023, to tackle urgent issues regarding the clearance of long-standing overdue cargoes at the port.
The meeting also aimed to implement a streamlined 48-hour customs clearance process to enhance trade facilitation.
During this productive gathering, the CGC engaged in fruitful discussions with a range of key stakeholders within the port environment, including Terminal Operators, Truck Owners, Licensed Customs Agents, and other major players.

The CGC expressed the mission to fulfil the government’s vision of decongesting the port by speeding up the removal of containers that have lingered for a long period.
He said, “Our aim is to streamline customs procedures, ultimately reducing both the time and cost associated with conducting business.”
Furthermore, the CGC highlighted the authority granted by the Nigeria Customs Service Act, 2023, which empowers the NCS to remove overdue cargoes from the port.
