ATBU engineering students visit Neptune Prime, discuss impact of journalism (Photos)
A group of engineering students from the Abubakar Tafewa Balewa University (ATBU), Bauchi State, have paid a courtesy visit to the Abuja head office of Neptune Network Nigeria Limited, publishers of Neptune Prime, to seek partnership for wider publicity of programmes produced on campus.
The students, who are members of the Nigerian Universities Engineering Students’ Association (NUESA), expressed their interest in making positive impact in the field of journalism.
They shared their passion for journalism and how it could be beneficial for their engineering courses.
Leader of the group, Abdullahi Ibrahim, a 500-level student of Automotive Engineering, said engineering and other professions need to be closely associated with Journalism.

He cited examples of programmes they have produced on campus that have not received enough publicity.
He expressed his belief that Neptune Prime could help them make these programmes known beyond the walls of their university.
Another student, Mansur Ahmad Adam, a 400-level student of Automotive Engineering, shared his admiration for Neptune Prime’s efforts in upholding integrity and professionalism and how it has inspired him to learn more about the journalism profession.
The group’s president, Fahad Abdullahi Ibrahim, who is also a content creator, spoke about the importance of journalism in promoting innovation and making it known worldwide.
He commended Neptune Prime for its efforts in this regard and expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to visit their office.
During the visit, the students had the chance to interact with Neptune Prime’s Publisher/CEO, Dr Hassan Gimba.
Responding, Dr Gimba emphasised the interconnectedness between engineering and journalism and how they both play important roles in society.
Dr Gimba discussed how mechanical engineering has contributed to journalism, highlighting the contributions of Johannes Gutenberg, a German blacksmith, goldsmith, printer, and publisher who is credited with inventing the printing press with movable type in the 15th century.
Gutenberg’s invention led to the mass production of newspapers and magazines, making it possible for journalists to reach a wider audience.
According to Dr Gimba, electrical electronics engineering has also played a crucial role in journalism through the development of microphones and radio technology. These technologies have enabled journalists to report from remote locations and share their stories with a global audience.
Civil engineers have contributed to journalism by designing buildings that can house large news organizations. Strong and sturdy buildings are essential for newsrooms as they house expensive equipment and provide a safe space for journalists to work.
Agricultural engineering has also contributed to journalism by providing food for journalists to eat and drink while they work.
Agricultural engineers have developed irrigation systems that enable farmers to grow crops in arid regions, ensuring that there is enough food to feed journalists and other members of society.
Extending a hand of partnership, Dr Gimba permits the students to invite Neptune Prime to cover any activities they have in the future.
The CEO also shared his own journey into journalism and how he discovered his passion for writing.
He encouraged the students to follow their passions in engineering and be focused in their studies and pledged to provide them with an opening at his office whenever they decide to venture into the field of journalism.
After departing from Neptune Prime’s office, the students felt invigorated and thankful for the chance to delve deeper into the realm of journalism with such a distinguished organization.
They pledged to invite Neptune Prime to cover any future events and expressed their appreciation for the opportunity to learn more about journalism from such a reputable entity.
