Group launches National Integration Project to tackle tribal, religious divisions in Nigeria
The National Integration Group has launched the National Integration Project Initiative to promote unity, mutual respect, and shared heritage in Nigeria.
The launching ceremony took place on Friday, 1st December 2023, at Works and Housing Estate, Gwarimpa, Abuja.
Speaking during the launching ceremony, the Chief Convener, Baba Isimi, FNIA,
said the launch of the National Integration Project Initiative represents a significant milestone in addressing the growing influence of religious and cultural divisions, which pose a threat to national stability.
Isimi emphasises the shared responsibility of all citizens to confront and challenge the effect of disunity in the country.
During the launch, Isimi noted that the National Integration Group will embrace national diversity as a unifying asset, viewing elements such as ethnicity, religion, social backgrounds, and generational differences as sources of strength that can bring Nigeria together instead of dividing it.

He said the group’s primary objective is to build bridges that foster empathy, understanding, and respect within society.
Shining more light on the Initiative, the convener said It aims to create a platform for open and meaningful dialogue, providing an opportunity for individuals from all backgrounds to engage and collaborate in shaping a prosperous and united future.
To realise this vision, the National Integration Group has outlined a comprehensive action-oriented strategy centered around 4 key pillars; education and enlightenment, community engagement, advocacy and policy development, and collaborative partnerships.
Furthermore, the group intends to work closely with government agencies such as the National Orientation Agency (NOA) and religious bodies, recognising their significant influence on society and seeking to address systemic issues to foster a sense of belonging among all citizens.
Similarly, the National Integration Group plans to collaborate with the Federal Government of Nigeria to designate a National Unity and Peace Day and to organise programmes aimed at reinforcing national unity and peace.
Isimi said, “The National Integration Group remains steadfast in its belief that through dialogue, education, and deep respect for Nigeria’s diversity, we can build a united and prosperous Nigeria, despite the challenges posed by societal issues”.
