Yobe gov’t bans 6 textbooks in schools over inappropriate contents

In an effort to enhance the quality of education in schools, the Yobe State Government has banned the use of six textbooks across all Nursery, Primary, and Secondary Schools in the state.
The decision was made as a result of the inclusion of inappropriate and sexually explicit content in these books.

In a press statement signed by the Director of School Management at the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, Bukar M. Madu, private and voluntary school operators were sternly warned against incorporating these books into their syllabus.
The prohibited textbooks are as follows:
1. New Concept, English Phrase 2 and 3: Authored by J. Eyisi, A Adekunle, B. Adepoju, F. Ademola Adeoye, Q. Adam, J Eto, and published by Learn Africa. The editions in question are from 2012 and 2018.
2. New Concept English for JSS3: Published by Learn Africa Publishers.
3. New Concept English, Revised 2014 Edition: Learn Africa Publishers.
4. Basic Social Studies for JSS2: Published by Longman. UBE edition by Anikpo Muhammad, Ezegbe Sallau, Okunamire.
5. Basic Social Studies for Junior Secondary School: Second edition by Learn Africa.
6. Royal School Series – The Queen Premier, Part II, New Edition: Published by Nelson Publisher Limited for Nursery School part, New Edition.
The statement emphasises that the Yobe State Government is committed to providing quality education while fostering positive characteristics among students.
