Keyamo launches task force to combat illegal activities by private jet operators

The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, has revealed startling revelations about the misuse of private aircraft in Nigeria for money laundering, drug trafficking, and other illicit activities.

Speaking at the Ministry of Aviation in Abuja, Keyamo inaugurated a Ministerial Taskforce Committee aimed at curbing illegal chartered operations in the country.

Keyamo expressed grave concerns over the significant financial losses incurred by the Federal Government due to these illegal activities, which also pose serious security risks.

He highlighted instances where operators with licences for non-commercial flights had breached their agreements, engaging in unauthorized charter activities.

The Minister underscored the urgent need for stringent regulatory measures to address these issues, announcing the formation of an eight-man committee chaired by the CEO of Aero Contractors, Ado Sanusi.

This committee is tasked with conducting thorough investigations into all non-commercial flight operators, scrutinizing professional licences, and recommending appropriate disciplinary actions against offenders.

The Ministerial Task Force on Illegal Private Charter Operations and Related Matters aims to restore integrity and safety in Nigeria’s aviation sector, ensuring that all flights adhere strictly to regulatory standards.

The committee is expected to submit its findings within three months, with a mandate to propose additional measures for monitoring and regulating private aircraft operations effectively.
