Gov. Buni directs SEMA to provide immediate support to Yobe flood victims
Story from Kasim Isa MUHAMMAD, Damaturu
In response to the recent flood incidents affecting over 30 communities in 12 local government areas of Yobe State, the state governor, Mai Mala Buni, has directed the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) to provide immediate support to the victims.
The Executive Secretary of the agency, Dr. Mohammed Goje, revealed this in an interview on Tuesday.
He said according to SEMA’s findings, a total of 4,976 households (10,845 individuals) have been affected, with over 14,082 rooms, mostly mud shelters, wall perimeters, and toilet facilities damaged or destroyed.
Additionally, public facilities such as the College of Health and Technology in Nguru and several schools across the affected LGAs have been severely impacted.
Dr Goje stated that despite the challenges, SEMA, alongside local government authorities, teams and community volunteers, has intensified efforts to evacuate, profile, and provide relief to the victims.
He added that Gov. Buni’s prompt directive has ensured that support reaches those in need, with a focus on the worst-affected areas.
