In response to the recent fire outbreak at female block of the Yobe State University, the Yobe State Emergency Management Agency (YOSEMA) has swiftly taken action to assist affected students.

Dr Mohammed Goje, the Executive Secretary of YOSEMA, confirmed that relief items have been promptly distributed to the victims.

According to him, the distributed items include five cartons of sanitary pads, mattresses, toilet paper, Indomie noodles, sardines, bread, mosquito nets, blankets, nylon mats, dining plates, and cups.

He added that the provisions aim to alleviate the immediate needs of the students affected by the tragic incident.

Meanwhile, Neptune Prime noted that the university management has designated a temporary relocation site where the affected students are currently accommodated while awaiting the renovation of the damaged hostel.

Earlier, Governor Mai Mala Buni, represented by his Deputy, Idi Barde Gubana, visited the scene to assess the situation firsthand.

During the visit, the governor expressed condolences to the university management and students affected by the inferno, while assuring them of the government’s commitment to providing necessary support to ensure their well-being and recovery from this unfortunate event.

It could be recalled that the fire, which occurred on the evening of February 13, 2024, engulfed one of the female hostels, resulting in the complete destruction of the building, which housed approximately 128 legal occupants.

A source revealed to Neptune Prime that the fire started as a result of a gas cylinder explosion.
