Abuja filling station fire under control – Police

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Command of the Nigeria Police has confirmed that the fire incident at Mainland Filling Station along the Murtala Muhammed Expressway, also known as Kubwa Express, on Thursday evening has been brought under control.

The fire, which occurred near the Public Service Institute of Nigeria (PSIN), caused significant panic among commuters and residents, particularly due to the station’s proximity to a nearby cooking gas station, Samolad. “The heat from the flames was reportedly felt up to a kilometre away”.

In a statement, the FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, quoted FCT Commissioner of Police, Bennett Igweh, confirming the mobilisation of police patrol teams from Kubwa division and personnel of PMF 50, alongside operatives of the Federal Fire Service.

Their combined efforts led to the swift containment of the fire, which started from a tanker discharging fuel.

While the tanker was completely burned, no fatalities were reported. The cause of the fire is still under investigation, and further updates will be communicated in due course.
