UNICEF pledges N400m for free healthcare in Zamfara state

The United Nations Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF) has announced a commitment of ₦480 million to support free healthcare services for women and children in Zamfara State.
This pledge was disclosed by Michael Juma, UNICEF’s Chief of the Sokoto Field Office, during a three-day interaction aimed at formalising UNICEF’s partnership with Zamfara State Government officials on the state’s Ten-Year Strategic Plan.
Juma emphasized that the funding is intended to bolster efforts by the Dauda Lawal-led administration to achieve sustainable development goals across social, economic, and environmental sectors outlined in the strategic plan.
The initiative includes the development of an accountability framework to monitor and evaluate progress effectively.
“In addition to enhancing healthcare access, UNICEF is committed to improving educational opportunities for children in Zamfara State,” Juma stated.
He highlighted the importance of enrolling out-of-school children and ensuring they receive quality education to unlock their full potential in the future.

Governor Dauda Lawal, in response, commended UNICEF for its continuous support and described the Ten-Year Strategic Plan as pivotal in guiding his administration towards overcoming challenges and achieving developmental milestones.
“This partnership with UNICEF will enable us to track resources, measure outcomes, and ultimately improve the lives of our people,” Governor Lawal remarked.
UNICEF’s commitment underscores its dedication to fostering sustainable development and transforming the lives of women and children in Zamfara State through comprehensive healthcare and educational initiatives.
