Story from Ahmad SAKA, Bauchi

The North East Development Commission (NEDC), in collaboration with the Lobito Group for Asiwaju Farmers, has distributed 256 farm implements and inputs across the three senatorial zones of Bauchi State.

At the distribution ceremony held on Saturday in Bauchi, Mr. Sulaiman Aliyu, representing the commission, stated that this initiative aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s agricultural policies. He emphasized that distributing these tools and machines to various groups would significantly enhance agricultural production, food security, and wealth creation among farmers in the state.

“The tools distributed include tractors, rice millers, multi-purpose threshers, hammer mills, power tillers, and de-stoners. Additionally, walking tractors, rotary tillers, iron bull tractors, iron disc plows, and high-pressure configurable water pumps were provided,” Aliyu explained.

State Coordinator Alhaji Usman Yau-Darazo highlighted the partnership’s goal of empowering diligent farmers in Bauchi. He noted that the distribution spanned all 20 local government areas, benefiting 10 farmers from each.

“This initiative underscores our commitment to decentralised agricultural support and fostering independence among local cooperatives. It aims to ensure every farmer can maximize productivity and efficiency on their farms,” Yau-Darazo stated.

He urged the recipients to use the tools effectively to boost productivity and enhance their incomes.

Beneficiary Malam Musa Birshi expressed gratitude, noting that the machines would alleviate the labor-intensive processes associated with harvesting and processing farm produce. “These machines will significantly reduce our stress and production costs, minimising wastage and increasing efficiency,” he said.

The initiative reflects a significant step towards modernising agriculture and supporting farmers in Bauchi State.
