Niger Republic military junta agrees to release ousted President Bazoum
The military junta in Niger Republic is facing a critical decision as it prepares to release former President Mohamed Bazoum and his wife, Khadija, amidst internal and external pressures.
Multiple sources from Nigeria and Niger confirm the junta’s intention to release Bazoum before or during the early days of Ramadan. However, the main dilemma lies in Bazoum’s insistence on remaining in Niger, refusing to relocate to another country.
Backed by French President Emmanuel Macron and indirectly supported by Nigerian President and ECOWAS leader, Bola Tinubu, Bazoum’s stance challenges the military government’s authority.
