Tinubu holds meeting with Akpabio, Barau, other lawmakers following Ningi’s suspension

President Bola Tinubu engaged in a private discussion with Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin, and other legislators at the Aso Rock Villa in Abuja.

The meeting on Tuesday comes in the wake of the recent suspension of Senator Abdul Ningi from Bauchi Central (PDP), who had accused the government of implementing a budget different from the one approved on January 1, 2024.

Senator Ningi, who heads the Northern Senators’ Forum and the Senate Committee on Population, asserted in an interview with BBC Hausa Service that the budget being executed by the Federal Government, under Tinubu’s leadership, was significantly higher than the NASS-approved budget.

According to the lawmakers present, a budget of N25 trillion was debated and passed, not the N28.7 trillion that is currently being implemented.

Senator Ningi had reiterated on Monday that N3.7 trillion seemed to be unaccounted for in the 2024 budget.

During the plenary session on Tuesday, Senator Ningi was suspended for three months due to his statements.
