WAEC releases first-ever CBT-WASSCE results

West African Examinations Council (WAEC) Nigeria has announced the release of the results for the inaugural Computer-Based West African Senior School Certificate Examination (CBT-WASSCE) for Private Candidates, 2024–First Series.
Transitioning from traditional paper-based examinations, WAEC conducted its first-ever Computer-Based Examinations for private candidates.
According to a statement from the council, all questions were presented on computers, with answers to multiple-choice questions supplied in real-time, while answers to essay and practical questions were provided in booklets to candidates.
The CBT-WASSCE took place from January 31 to February 17, 2024. “Out of the 8,139 candidates who sat for the examination, 3,424 candidates (representing 42.07%) obtained credit and above in at least five subjects, with or without English Language and/or Mathematics”.
Additionally, 2,519 candidates (30.95%) obtained credit and above in at least five subjects, including English Language and Mathematics.
“The examination scripts were marked by examiners across three venues in Lagos, Enugu, and Kaduna from March 1 to 16, 2024, with 459 examiners participating in the process”.

“Despite a 4.30% decrease in candidature compared to the previous year, 8,139 candidates sat for the examination at 140 CBT centres nationwide”.
Furthermore, 21 candidates with varying degrees of special needs were registered for the examination, with adequate provisions made for their administration.
