Police apprehend 100 at US University following anti-semitic demonstrations
A recent large-scale apprehension conducted by police at a US university has resulted in the detainment of approximately 100 individuals, as authorities sought to disband a pro-Palestinian camp following the use of anti-Semitic slurs by protesters.
The incident, which unfolded at the university campus, involved the use of chemical irritants and tasers by law enforcement officials to clear the demonstrators. The school, through a statement on social media platform X, clarified that the action was necessary due to protesters resorting to “virulent anti-Semitic slurs, including ‘Kill the Jews,’ crossed the line.”
The protests had initially sparked at Columbia University in response to Israel’s conflict with Hamas, subsequently spreading to various other campuses across the country. This has presented a significant challenge for university administrators tasked with balancing the commitment to freedom of speech on campus while addressing concerns about the demonstrations crossing boundaries.

In an official statement, Northeastern University detailed that campus police, along with local law enforcement, intervened on Saturday to disband “an unauthorized encampment” on the university grounds. The institution highlighted that what had initially started as a student-led demonstration was disrupted by outside organizers with no affiliation to Northeastern.
The university further outlined that individuals who were detained during the apprehension and able to provide legitimate school identification cards have since been released, though they will be subject to internal disciplinary procedures. Legal consequences were reportedly avoided for these individuals as the university addresses the matter internally.
