Police sack Inspector for extortion of N29.8m, downgrade 3 others for bribery

Story from Usman UMAR

The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) have terminated the employment of one inspector and downgraded the ranks of three others due to their involvement in criminal activities.

The implicated officers are Inspector Adabo Mohammed, Inspectors Osagie Efford, Semiu Agbekin, and Francis Ahuen.

Inspector Adabo Mohammed was fired for participating in criminal conspiracy, armed robbery, kidnapping, and corrupt behaviour.

Inspectors Osagie Efford, Semiu Agbekin, and Francis Ahuen were demoted to the position of Sergeant for engaging in extortion.

This action was taken after a thorough investigation confirmed their misconduct.

The Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, emphasized the zero-tolerance policy towards indiscipline under IGP Kayode Egbetokun’s leadership.

Adejobi stated, “One Inspector Adabo Mohammed was dismissed for criminal conspiracy, armed robbery/kidnapping, and corrupt acts.

“The dismissed officer and five others were part of a criminal group responsible for a robbery, totaling N29.8 million and the abduction of Ikechukwu Emmanuel Okafor, along with demanding a ransom of N4.4 million. The ex-officer has been taken to court accordingly.

“Similarly, the trio of Inspectors Osagie Efford, Semiu Agbekin, and Francis Ahuen, from the Special Tactical Squad (STS), were demoted to Sergeant for extorting motorists in Abuja.

“They stopped an unregistered Mercedes Benz in Gwarinpa, Abuja, and coerced the occupants to hand over N29.4 million.

“After a report from Harrison Gwamnishu (@HarrisonBBi18) on social media, a proper investigation was carried out, the money was returned, and the officers underwent orderly room trial as per laws, resulting in their demotions,” he said.
