Nigeria won’t need to import even a litre of fuel by June – Dangote
The Chairman of the Dangote Group, Aliko Dangote, has announced that Nigeria will no longer need to import gasoline by next month, as the Dangote Refinery is set to meet the country’s fuel demands.
Speaking at the Africa CEO Forum Annual Summit in Kigali, Dangote revealed that the refinery has already started supplying diesel and aviation fuel in Nigeria and has the capacity to meet the diesel and petrol needs of West Africa and the aviation fuel demand of the entire African continent.
“Right now, Nigeria has no cause to import anything apart from gasoline, and by sometime in June, within the next four or five weeks, Nigeria shouldn’t import anything like gasoline; not one drop of a litre,” Dangote declared.

The Dangote Refinery, which has a capacity of 650,000 barrels per day, is expected to supply gasoline, diesel, and aviation fuel to Nigeria and other West African countries, reducing the region’s dependence on imported fuel.
Dangote expressed his commitment to making Africa self-sufficient in fuel production, saying, “We have enough gasoline to give to at least the entire West Africa, diesel to give to West Africa and Central Africa. We have enough aviation fuel to give to the entire continent and also export some to Brazil and Mexico.”
The refinery is also producing polypropylene and polyethylene to meet Africa’s demands and is working on base oil and linear benzyl production, with a goal to make Africa self-sufficient in potash, phosphate, and urea.
This development is expected to boost Nigeria’s economy and reduce the country’s reliance on imported fuel, creating jobs and stimulating economic growth in the region.
