Student dies after being beaten by peers over alleged phone theft
A student at Ajayi Crowther University in Oyo State has died after being beaten by fellow students who accused him of stealing a mobile phone. The victim, identified only as Alex, was reportedly attacked around 10 p.m. on Friday after the theft was discovered.
According to an anonymous source within the institution, the accused student not only stole the phone but also transferred money from the phone owner’s account.
Video clips from the incident show the victim being beaten with a cane while another student encouraged the beating.
The altercation led to the victim being thrown out of the hostel, where he was found dead on Saturday morning.
In response, the university has expelled the students involved in the fatal beating and handed them over to the police for investigation.

Ajayi Crowther University’s Public Relations Officer, Femi Atoyebi, denied reports of cult involvement, emphasizing that the expelled students were not part of any cult group.
He stated that the university has zero tolerance for anti-social behavior and is committed to ensuring a safe learning environment.
The university assured that the case is being handled by the authorities and that justice will be served.
