Akpabio, Umahi, Dangote commission reconstructed Apapa-Oworonshoki-Ojota expressway

The Apapa-Oworonshoki-Ojota Expressway, a major infrastructure project in Lagos, was officially commissioned on Sunday.

OThis event marked the completion of a six-year reconstruction effort by the Dangote Group in collaboration with the Federal Government.

Prominent attendees included Senate President Godwill Akpabio, who represented President Bola Tinubu, Minister of Works Dave Umahi, Chairman of Dangote Group Aliko Dangote, Lagos State Deputy Governor Obafemi Hamzat, and the Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Dangote highlighted the significance of this project, noting that it represents a major milestone in Nigeria’s infrastructure development.

“He explained that the project took longer than expected because the government initially allocated only sections one to three of the road for reconstruction”.

Later, it became evident that section two, initially built with asphalt, also needed reconstruction. This additional task was assigned when sections one and three were nearly completed.

During his speech, Dangote emphasized the superior quality of the new concrete road and suggested that the Federal Ministry of Works consider replacing asphalt roads across Nigeria with concrete ones for better durability.

Minister Umahi commended Hitech, “the construction company responsible for the project, stating that their expertise in concrete road construction is unparalleled.

He also mentioned that the work done on the Third Mainland Bridge, another significant project commissioned on the same day, was beyond mere rehabilitation”.

Senate President Akpabio praised the achievements in the reconstruction of the Apapa-Oworonshoki-Ojota Expressway and the Third Mainland Bridge, describing them as significant accomplishments.

Following the commissioning, the Senate President and other officials proceeded to join President Tinubu for the flag-off ceremony of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway.
