Nigeria Customs bolsters partnership with NPA to enhance Ports efficiency
The Comptroller General of the Nigeria Customs Service, Bashir Adewale Adewale MFR, has reinforced the partnership between the Nigeria Customs Service and the Nigerian Ports Authority.
His recent visit to the MD of NPA, Mohammed Bello-Koko, on Thursday, January 25, 2024, aimed at enhancing port efficiency to streamline trade facilitation.
Highlighting the significance of the collaboration, the CGC emphasized the mutual goal of achieving port efficiency.
He stated, “NPA desires to achieve port efficiency, and we believe that in customs, Ports efficiency will help to facilitate trade. NPA, in all its programs, tries to improve the competitiveness of our Ports, and this aligns with our vision.”

Expressing the need to improve port operations, the CGC stressed the use of technology and risk management to expedite cargo clearance processes.
He emphasized the deployment of scanners to examine goods, fast-tracking procedures, and the forthcoming implementation of AEO (Authorised Economic Operator) to minimise container examinations and enhance efficiency.
In response, the MD of NPA, Mohammed Bello-Koko, lauded the CGC for his collaboration in improving trade facilitation and reducing the cost of doing business in the Ports.
He acknowledged the positive impact of the export desk initiative and emphasized the importance of 24-hour port operations for swift cargo clearance.
The discussions between the officials underscored the collective effort required to ensure efficient cargo clearance and seamless port operations, with a focus on the active involvement of all stakeholders to maintain a 24-hour operational cycle.
