Nigerian crochetist, Chidinma Okafor, aims for Guinness World Record with 72-hour crochet-a-thon
Chidinma Modupe Okafor, a skilled crochetist and social entrepreneur from Nigeria, is set to embark on a 72-hour crochet-a-thon with the goal of breaking the Guinness World Record (GWR). The event, scheduled from December 24th to 27th, will take place at GOGE Africa, Lagos, starting at 12 pm.
Hailing from Imo State, Chidinma, who leads the renowned crochet brand, 6chi_crocheting_brand, began her crochet journey as a hobby, which later transformed into a strong passion for crafting various accessories and dresses.
Inspired by the achievements of fellow Nigerians in setting world records, Chidinma is driven by an unwavering commitment to scaling the heights of her career through the crochet business. Ahead of the record-breaking attempt, the 30-year-old artist has meticulously prepared herself in three crucial areas: physical endurance, mental fortitude, and a dedicated support team to ensure a seamless process.

“I’ve undergone rigorous physical endurance training to bolster stamina for continuous crochet sessions,” shared Chidinma with The Nation. “Mentally, I’ve trained myself to stay focused and resilient during this crochet marathon. Additionally, with the aid of my dedicated team, we’re set to handle documentation, witness requirements, and ensure strict adherence to guidelines.”
This initiative adds to the growing trend among Nigerian youths striving to set or surpass world records in diverse fields. Chidinma’s crochet-a-thon follows Helen Williams’ recent achievement of establishing a new record for creating the longest handmade wig.
