UK suspends British-Nigerian minister, Kate Osamor, for accusing Israel of genocide

British-Nigerian MP Kate Osamor has been suspended after making controversial comments accusing Israel of genocide on the eve of Holocaust Memorial Day.

Posting a photo of herself signing the Holocaust Education Trust’s commemoration book in Westminster, she wrote on X: ‘Tomorrow is Holocaust Memorial Day, an international day to remember the six million Jews murdered during the Holocaust, the millions of other people murdered under Nazi persecution of other groups and more recent genocides in Cambodia, Rwanda, Bosnia and now Gaza.’

Following her comments, several organisations, including the Board of Deputies, the Jewish Labour Movement, and the Holocaust Educational Trust, expressed their concerns.

In response to the controversy, a Labour source confirmed that Chief Whip has suspended Kate Osamor from the Parliamentary Labour Party pending an investigation.

The MP for Edmonton in north London is due to meet other party officials again later this week, The Guardian reported.

This came days after the International Court of Justice (ICJ) ruled that Israel must obey the Genocide Convention, taking urgent steps to avoid the killing and harming of civilians.
