NAPTIP apprehends 80-year-old woman in Benue for child trafficking
The National Agency For the Prohibition Of Trafficking In Persons (NAPTIP) has conducted a successful operation in Benue, leading to the arrest of eight suspects involved in child trafficking, including an 80-year-old woman, Innocent Josephine, and a 56-year-old, Ude Rosaline.
The operation also resulted in the rescue of five victims who were exploited by the syndicate.
The arrests were made following a distress call from a mother seeking her missing twins, who were later discovered to have been sold in December 2023.

The syndicate was found to be exploiting vulnerable homes, including IDP camps, by posing as helpers for education sponsorship and then selling the acquired children for amounts ranging from ₦350,000 to ₦900,000 per child, disguised as adoptions.
NAPTIP has urged the public to exercise caution when approached by individuals offering assistance with child education and to contact the state Ministry of Women’s Affairs for proper guidance on adoption processes.
Efforts are ongoing to apprehend Mama Nnamdi, who is currently at large, and legal proceedings against the suspects are underway.
The rescued victims have been reunited with their families. NAPTIP’s vigorous operation and rescue efforts demonstrate their commitment to combating child trafficking and protecting vulnerable individuals.
