INEC suspends rerun polls in 20 PUs in Kano, Enugu, Akwa Ibom
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has taken the decision to suspend ongoing rerun elections in twenty polling units within specific constituencies in Akwa Ibom, Kano, and Enugu states.
The national commissioner and chairman of the information and voter education committee, Sam Olumekun, released a statement citing reasons for the suspension, which include disruptions, irregularities, and the abduction of election officials.
The affected areas encompass the Ikono/Ini Federal Constituency in Akwa Ibom State, where elections were suspended in two Polling Units due to the carting away of all election materials by hoodlums.
In Enugu South 1 State Constituency in Enugu State, elections were suspended in all eight Polling Units as the original results sheets were not available for inspection by voters before the polls commenced.

Furthermore, in Kunchi/Tsanyawa State Constituency in Kano State, elections were suspended in all ten Polling Units due to invasion, vandalisation, and disruption by thugs.
INEC had earlier announced that it was monitoring reports of hijacking and thuggery in some parts of the three states.
Olumekun emphasized that the decision to suspend the polls aligns with the provisions of section 24(3) of the Electoral Act 2022 and stated that further necessary measures for the affected constituencies would be announced after the Commission’s meeting on Monday.
The statement also invited security agencies to investigate the incidents while reassuring the thorough interrogation of any breaches involving its officials by the Commission.
