Nigerian politician dies as S’Africa equalised against Nigeria
A prominent Nigerian politician, Dr Cairo Ojougboh, and member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Chieftain in Delta State has died while the watching the match between Super Eagles and South Africa.
Ojougboh breathed his last just as a penalty was awarded against Nigeria during the Africa Cup of Nations semi-final match against South Africa on Wednesday.

Captain William Troost-Ekong had scored a penalty for Nigeria in the 67th minute, but Teboho Mokoena was later awarded a spot-kick. The equalizer by Mokoena came after Nigeria believed they had secured a second goal through a tap-in by Victor Osimhen, the 2023 African best player.
However, the play was called back after VAR (Video Assistant Referee) alerted the Egyptian referee that South African player, Percy Tau had been fouled in the area.
Despite the intense match, Nigeria emerged victorious with a 4-2 penalty shootout, propelling the Super Eagles to the tournament final with AFCON hosts Ivory Coast on Sunday.
Accorsing to reports, the late politician was the director general of the Coalition for Peace and Unity, and a former member of the federal House of Representatives.
