Man charged with murder for allegedly killing brother’s wife with axe

A 61-year-old man named Moses Nweze has been arraigned in an Abakaliki Magistrate Court in Ebonyi State for the alleged murder of his brother’s wife, Mrs. Mary Nwomege.

The incident, which occurred on February 24, 2024, saw Nweze reportedly striking Mrs. Nwomege on the head with an axe while she was cooking.

The charge against Nweze states that he unlawfully caused the death of Mary Nwomege by hitting her with an iron axe, leading to his arrest and subsequent arraignment in court.

The Presiding Magistrate, Lilian Ogodo, determined that the court lacked jurisdiction over the case and remanded the accused in Abakaliki Correctional Service.

The case file was directed to be forwarded to the Ministry of Justice for further action.

Chinasa Nwomege, the victim’s daughter, shared with reporters the tragic story of how her uncle allegedly took the life of her mother.

“I was inside the house and suddenly I heard the voice of my mother breathing like someone who is in pain.

“So I rushed out to know what was wrong with her and I saw my uncle Moses hitting my mother on the head, so I raised alarm and people came and helped me take my Mother to the hospital.”

She said she and other members of the family want justice for her slain mother.
