Hezbollah leader vows ‘Inevitable’ response to Israeli assassination

In a defiant address following the assassination of senior commander Fuad Shukr, Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah declared that the conflict with Israel has “entered a new phase.”

Speaking to a crowd of supporters at Shukr’s funeral in Beirut, Nasrallah emphasized that Hezbollah’s response to the Israeli attack would be “real and studied” rather than merely symbolic. Despite international pressure to avoid retaliation, Nasrallah affirmed that Israel had “crossed red lines,” making a response “inevitable.”

The killing of Shukr occurred during an Israeli airstrike in Beirut’s densely populated Haret Hreik neighborhood, which also resulted in the deaths of three women and two children, with dozens more injured, according to Lebanon’s Ministry of Public Health. The raid was in retaliation for an earlier attack in Syria’s occupied Golan Heights that killed 12 children and young adults playing football in Majdal Shams.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu responded by stating that Israel is prepared for any retaliatory actions by Iran and its allies. “Israel is very prepared for any scenario – both defensively and offensively,” Netanyahu said. “We will exact a very heavy price for any act of aggression against us from any arena.”

The situation escalated further with another strike in Tehran early Wednesday that killed Hamas political leader Ismail Haniyeh. This has raised concerns of a coordinated response from Iran and allied groups, potentially leading to a broader regional conflict. Israel has not commented on the Tehran strike or taken responsibility for Haniyeh’s assassination.
