Tragic food poisoning claims lives of 7 family members in Sokoto

At least seven people have been confirmed dead from food poisoning in Runjin Barmo village, Kajiji District, Sokoto State.

According to a statement from Nura Bello, the Information Officer for the State Ministry of Health, the victims reportedly consumed a contaminated cassava delicacy. The authorities are investigating the incident to prevent further cases.

The statement added that the incident was confirmed by the village head, Malam Muhammadu Modi. He described the events to the Commissioner for Health, Hajiya Asabe Balarabe, stating that the victims consumed the contaminated cassava meal during their dinner.

According to him, “The victims comprised the father, Malam Abubakar, his wife, A’ishatu Abubakar, and their five children. The incident occurred last Wednesday, and the cause of death has yet to be confirmed. He stated that the suspected cassava had been consumed by about four households in the village, and no cases of illness were recorded in those homes.”
