US approves $5bn patriot missile sale to Germany
The United States has given the green light for a $5 billion deal to sell up to 600 PAC-3 MSE Patriot missiles and associated equipment to Germany. This move, aimed at enhancing Germany’s air defense capabilities, comes as the country continues to support Ukraine amidst ongoing Russian aggression.
The Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) emphasized that this sale will significantly bolster Germany’s ability to counter both current and future threats, strengthening its national defense and ensuring seamless interoperability with US and NATO forces.

“This deal is not just about improving Germany’s military capabilities,” the DSCA stated. “It’s about fortifying the security of a key NATO ally and supporting political and economic stability in Europe.”
Germany, having shifted from its traditionally pacifist stance after the Ukraine war began in 2022, has emerged as Kyiv’s second-largest military supporter, following the United States. Berlin has already donated several Patriot systems to Ukraine, which has been under constant attack from Russian missiles and drones.
The proposed sale has received approval from the US State Department, but it still awaits Congress’s sign-off to proceed.
