NSCDC dismisses officer in Zamfara for alleged collaboration with bandits
The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has pledged to take strict disciplinary measures against Maikano Sarkin-Tasha, an officer arrested for allegedly supplying ammunition and drugs to bandits in Zamfara State. The command has vowed to pursue dismissal and prosecution following the officer’s alleged misconduct.

During a media briefing at the NSCDC command headquarters in Gusau, Commandant Sani Mustapha condemned the officer’s actions, emphasizing that they are contrary to the core values of integrity and service that the NSCDC upholds. Mustapha stated, “We condemn this act in all ramifications as our command is known for integrity in service delivery, discipline, and compliance with ethical standards.”
The commandant highlighted that the NSCDC has a zero-tolerance policy towards indiscipline, corruption, and any behavior unbecoming of an officer. He reiterated that the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) is regularly enforced to prevent any compromises or misconduct among personnel.
Mustapha clarified that the officer’s alleged actions reflect his individual character and do not represent the overall conduct or reputation of the Zamfara Command or the NSCDC as a whole. He noted that the officer had previously been reported for irresponsible work behavior, which prompted ongoing efforts to track him.
Preliminary investigations revealed that Sarkin-Tasha was apprehended at a checkpoint between Damba and Sabon Gida while attempting to return to his hometown, Mada. Authorities discovered substances suspected to be cannabis and other hard drugs in his possession. Additionally, three armor-piercing G3 rifles and one anti-aircraft gun, along with a total of four rounds of ammunition, were recovered from his residence.
In light of these findings, Mustapha has pledged to collaborate with Zamfara State Commissioner of Police Mohammed Dalijan to ensure that thorough investigations and appropriate disciplinary actions are taken. He reiterated the NSCDC’s commitment to working with all security agencies to combat crime and uphold the law.
“While the incident is regrettable, the command will continue to strive for good character, conduct, and discipline within our ranks,” Mustapha asserted. He reassured the public that the NSCDC does not condone any acts of indiscipline, especially those related to banditry or terrorism, and is committed to transparency throughout the investigation process.
The commandant concluded by promising to keep the media and the public updated on further developments regarding this case, reinforcing the NSCDC’s dedication to protecting critical national assets and ensuring the safety of citizens in Zamfara State.
