#FearlessOctober1: Kano residents opt against protest, carry on with daily activities

On October 1, 2024, residents of Kano went about their daily routines undeterred by the “FearlessInOctober” protest, which was widely promoted on social media.

This demonstration follows the August #EndBadGovernance protests and shares similar themes, with discontented youth calling for a reversal of the recent petrol subsidy removal and increased electricity tariffs.

Observing the situation in Kano, newsmen reports that while the day has been designated as a public holiday, many residents have chosen to stay indoors.

However, others have continued with their daily business activities.

Major roads are relatively quiet, with no heavy traffic congestion, while shops and small businesses remain open.

A quick survey of major markets such as Kwari, Sabon Gari, Singer, and Kurmi revealed that most businesses are operating, with only a few closed.

At the time of filing this report, there were no reports of protests occurring anywhere in the state.
