Iran warns of retaliation against nations supporting attacks on its territory

Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf has issued a stern warning to countries that permit their territories to be used for attacks against Iran, indicating that the Islamic Republic will respond forcefully.

In an interview with Lebanon’s al-Mayadeen television during his visit to the country on Saturday, Qalibaf stated that Iran maintains peaceful relations with its neighboring countries but will not tolerate any form of aggression launched from their territories.

“We have said time and again that the airspace and soils of neighbouring countries should not be used for attacks against our country,” Qalibaf declared. He expressed confidence that Iran’s neighbors in the West Asia region would remain committed to preventing their lands from being used against Iran. However, he also emphasized that if a third country’s territory is used to perpetrate an attack on the Islamic Republic, Iran’s response will be “clear and natural.”

Qalibaf pointed to Iran’s recent military action, known as Operation True Promise II, as an example of the country’s readiness to retaliate. During the operation, which took place on October 1, Iran reportedly fired 200 ballistic missiles at strategic military and intelligence targets within the occupied Palestinian territories. According to Qalibaf, the missiles targeted Israeli military bases, including the Nevatim airbase and the Mossad headquarters, in response to what Iran views as ongoing Israeli aggressions.

“Our response was military, focusing on the Israeli regime’s military, intelligence, and security bases,” Qalibaf explained. He claimed the strikes inflicted significant damage and conveyed a message that Iran would not hesitate to respond to provocations.

Addressing his current visit to Lebanon amid ongoing tensions in the region, Qalibaf reiterated Iran’s commitment to supporting the Lebanese and Palestinian people, especially in the face of Israeli hostilities. He indicated that Iran’s support goes beyond political backing, extending to reconstruction efforts in areas devastated by conflict.

Qalibaf underscored that Iran’s aim is not to expand conflicts but to protect its sovereignty. He stated, “We do not want to expand the war, but we will surely respond powerfully and appropriately to any attack against our country.” He further emphasized that Iran’s support for Lebanon and Palestine aligns with international laws, countering any perception of threat to the country’s security.

In concluding his statements, Qalibaf reiterated Iran’s long-standing position against the use of violence by external forces in the region. He called for solidarity among neighboring countries, emphasizing that Iran’s defense of its borders and allies remains unwavering. The remarks have sparked international reactions, with many analyzing Iran’s regional influence and its stance on defending its sovereignty amidst increasing geopolitical tensions.
