Ex-Indian Minister shot dead in Mumbai

A tragic incident unfolded in Mumbai on Saturday when Baba Siddique, a senior politician and former minister in Maharashtra, was shot dead just weeks before critical state elections. The 66-year-old lawmaker was targeted outside his son’s office, sustaining multiple gunshot wounds to the chest.

Maharashtra’s deputy chief minister, Ajit Pawar, expressed his shock over the “cowardly attack,” emphasizing the need for a thorough investigation. Reports indicate that two suspects have been apprehended, with police on the hunt for a third. The arrested individuals allegedly belong to a notorious crime gang led by Lawrence Bishnoi, currently incarcerated and facing charges for orchestrating multiple killings.

This shooting occurs shortly after Siddique’s security was enhanced following death threats he received, highlighting the increasing violence in Indian politics. Pawar assured that both the attackers and the mastermind behind the incident would be pursued vigorously.

Siddique was well-connected, known for his relationships with various Bollywood celebrities and for hosting extravagant parties, further underscoring the high-profile nature of his life and the implications of his assassination on the upcoming elections.
