As Tinubu vacations in France, Shettima jets out to Sweden

Vice President Kashim Shettima is set to leave Abuja on Wednesday for a two-day visit to Sweden, where he will represent Nigeria in bilateral engagements.

According to a statement from Stanley Nkwocha, the Vice President’s spokesman, the visit is at the request of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Shettima is expected to return to Nigeria on Saturday. During his time in Sweden, he will participate in high-level discussions with key government officials, including meetings with Crown Princess Victoria and the Swedish Prime Minister.

The spokesperson announced that during the visit to Sweden, the Vice President will seek to enhance collaboration between Nigeria and Sweden in various sectors, including ICT, innovation, education, digitalization, sustainable transport, mining, and agriculture.

Additionally, he will engage with key stakeholders from both the government and the private sector.

The Vice President will also meet with Norrsken, a Stockholm-based venture capital impact investor that recently launched Norrsken22, a $205 million tech investment fund focused on Africa.

Norrsken22 is a technology growth fund backed by over 30 prominent unicorn founders, collaborating with exceptional entrepreneurs to develop Africa’s next tech giants.

This meeting will provide valuable insights into how Nigerian entrepreneurs can leverage this fund to enhance the country’s technology ecosystem. Notably, 40% of Norrsken22’s investments are expected to go to Nigerian tech entrepreneurs.

Mr. Nkwocha added that twelve Nigerian private sector companies actively engaged with Sweden are participating as an independent bloc.

During his time in Sweden, VP Shettima is also expected to outline Nigeria’s economic vision and the reforms being implemented to foster a business-friendly environment for investors.

This development coincides with the conclusion of President Tinubu’s two-week trip, which began on October 2, 2024, when he departed for the UK.
