Ogoja State creation Bill moves to second reading in House of Reps

A bill proposing the creation of Ogoja State has successfully passed its second reading in the House of Representatives.

Sponsored by Godwin Offiono and three co-sponsors, the constitutional amendment aims to modify the 1999 Constitution to establish an additional state in Nigeria’s South-South region.

During the plenary session, Offiono stressed that the “essence of this bill is rooted in equity,” underscoring the importance of fair representation and resource distribution in the area.

If enacted, the bill would raise the number of states in the South-South region to seven.
