Jigawa Govt suspends Commissioner over alleged affair

The Jigawa State Government has announced the immediate suspension of Auwalu Sankara, the State Commissioner for Special Duties, following allegations of an illicit affair with a married woman.

The incident reportedly occurred in an uncompleted building, sparking public outrage and prompting swift action from the government.

According to a statement released on Saturday by Bala Ibrahim, the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), the suspension was approved by Governor Malam Umar A. Namadi. The decision to suspend the commissioner was taken after the Kano State Hisbah, a religious law enforcement body, raised the allegations.

The statement clarified that the suspension is a precautionary measure aimed at ensuring a thorough and transparent investigation into the claims. “Governor Namadi has approved the immediate suspension of Auwalu Dalladi Sankara as Honourable Commissioner, Ministry of Special Duties and member of the State Executive Council pending an investigation into allegations made by the Kano State Hisbah,” the SSG said.

Bala Ibrahim emphasized the administration’s commitment to accountability, transparency, and adherence to ethical standards in governance. “We take all allegations seriously and are dedicated to upholding the trust of Jigawa citizens in the government,” the statement further stressed.

The government made it clear that the suspension is not an admission of guilt but a necessary step to allow for a fair and unbiased investigation. Governor Namadi is known for maintaining high ethical standards within his administration, and this move is seen as a reflection of his zero-tolerance approach to misconduct among public officials.

The outcome of the investigation will determine any further actions regarding Sankara’s role in the government. Meanwhile, the public is urged to remain patient as the investigation unfolds, with assurances that the government is committed to ensuring justice and fairness.
