Suspected sit-at-home enforcers kill two in Aba

Hooded men dressed in black shirts and trousers have killed two people in Aba, the commercial hub of Abia State.

The incident took place near Old Express off Sameck junction, close to a well-known slaughterhouse in the Aba North local government area. One victim was identified as a caretaker of a nearby house, while the identity of the other victim remains unknown; he was left to die in a pool of his own blood.

No group has claimed responsibility for the killings, leaving local residents in fear.

It was reported that a group of young men arrived at the compound and began knocking on the door. The caretaker stepped outside to see who was there and was shot right in front of his home.

For the second consecutive day, residents adhered to the sit-at-home order issued by members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), staying away from their businesses.

Movement within and outside the state, particularly in Aba and the state capital, Umuahia, was severely restricted, with only a few individuals and commercial buses on the roads. Banks, petrol stations, markets, eateries, and schools remained closed.

Reports indicated that a small number of vehicles were seen moving without any issues. The bustling Milverton bus terminal was notably quiet.

Residents of Aba expressed their eagerness for normal business operations to resume, hoping for a return to regular activity the following day.
