As a leader within the PDP Youth Forum, I am writing to convey my perspectives, along with those of millions of PDP youths nationwide, based on various discussions, both in person and online. Many of us see significant challenges facing the party, and we strongly believe that, to secure a brighter future for the PDP, it is time for the North Central region to assume the chairmanship role for the remainder of the current National Working Committee’s term.
The inability to address issues related to our former chairman, Distinguished Senator Iyochia Ayu, in a timely and unified manner has contributed to the APC’s ability to influence the 2023 general election results, despite widespread support for our candidate and party. Since you assumed the role of acting chairman, the challenges of division within the party have continued and are now affecting multiple states. While we cannot attribute the entire setback in Edo State to your leadership, it is clear that internal disunity has left the PDP vulnerable and strengthened the ruling party.
We recognize and appreciate your commitment to the party during your time as acting chairman. However, there is growing sentiment among youths, particularly those from the North Central region, who feel that this role is rightfully theirs. Many young people are increasingly frustrated, viewing this as an opportunity that should belong to the North Central region, especially given that rotation rules may prevent them from securing this position for another 20 years.
In the spirit of unity, fairness, and respect, we urge you to consider stepping down to allow the North Central region to take up this role. This decision would not only foster unity within the PDP but would also reinforce your legacy as a leader who made a selfless choice for the betterment of our party and its future.
