Police confirm Abuja building collapse, 5 rescued, no fatalities

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has reported the rescue of five individuals from a collapsed building in Vidaz Estate, Sabon Lugbe extension, Abuja.

Police spokesperson SP Josephine Adeh disclosed in a statement that the incident occurred on Saturday, and no fatalities were recorded. According to Adeh, the building had previously been demolished by FCT authorities due to its location in an illegally acquired area. However, scavengers tampering with the remnants for scrap metal weakened the structure further, leading to its secondary collapse.

In light of this incident, the public is urged to respect boundaries around demolished structures and construction sites to ensure safety and prevent similar occurrences in the future.”
