Abia Rep Alex Ikwechegh charged with assaulting cab driver

Abia State Representative Alex Ikwechegh is set to appear at Kuje Magistrate Court today at 12 p.m. following his alleged assault on Bolt driver Stephen Abuwatseya in Maitama, Abuja.

The October 27 incident, which was recorded and went viral, has sparked significant public outrage and condemnation.

In light of the backlash, Ikwechegh has issued a public apology and pledged to cooperate fully with the ongoing investigation by the Inspector General of Police’s Special Investigation Unit (SIU).

Activist lawyer Deji Adeyanju confirmed the court proceedings, stating, “We are heading to Kuje Magistrate Court for the arraignment of the honorable member who assaulted our client, Mr. Stephen.”

He also underscored the significance of media presence at the arraignment.
