Police uncover organ harvesting syndicate in Ebonyi, parades suspects
The Ebonyi State Police Command has exposed a gruesome network of organ harvesters and ritual killers operating within the state.
The revelation was made by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Joshua Ukandu, during a press briefing at the state headquarters in Abakaliki.
DSP Ukandu, speaking on behalf of Commissioner of Police Anthonia Uche-Anya, highlighted that under CP Uche-Anya’s leadership, strategic crime prevention initiatives involving community stakeholders have significantly curbed criminal activities in Ebonyi.
Among the recent successes, the arrest of an organ harvesting syndicate stands out as a major breakthrough.
During October 2024, 177 suspects were apprehended for various crimes. The suspects paraded include individuals linked to high-profile crimes such as ritual killings, kidnapping, and illegal possession of firearms.
One of the most shocking cases involved a syndicate responsible for the disappearance and murder of several individuals. Mrs. Blessing Chikezie Onyekachi reported her husband, Mr. Chikezie Idenyi, missing in mid-September after he reportedly left for a business trip to Lagos.

Investigations led the police to arrest Innocent Elebe, Eze Elechi, Obinna Nwanguru, and Oda Peter, who admitted to the brutal killing of Mr. Idenyi and others, claiming they harvested organs to treat a person with Down syndrome. Authorities have recovered the bodies of Mr. Idenyi and another victim, while efforts to locate other remains.
In a separate incident, Miss Nwigbo was kidnapped and held for four days, during which her captors demanded a ransom of ₦400,000. The police arrested two suspects, Ominiyi Friday and Ubochi Ifeanyi, with others still at large. The command promises to continue pursuing the remaining suspects.
Additional arrests include Chukwuebuka Okemiri, accused in the murder of traditional leader HRH Ezeogo Ibo Ubani. Police also detained Utobo Onyekachi, aka “Azaman,” a notorious armed robber, and Friday James Nworie, a resident found with illegal firearms.
Residents are urged to remain vigilant, particularly during the festive season, and report any suspicious activities to assist the police in maintaining security across Ebonyi State.
