Husband sets wife ablaze during argument

Story by Victor Itodo ABUH

A man named Olubunmi Johnson has been arrested by the Ogun State Police Command for allegedly setting his wife, Kikelomo, on fire at their residence on Fagbuyi Street, Ilogbo, in the Ota area of Ogun State.

The incident reportedly happened around 8:30 p.m. on Friday after an argument between the couple.

According to an eyewitness who spoke on Saturday evening, the exact reason behind the dispute is still unclear.

However, the spokesperson for the Ogun State Police Command, Omolola Odutola, confirmed that Johnson, aged 55, was apprehended in connection with the violent act.

Reports indicate that a neighbour who witnessed the disturbing event promptly informed Kikelomo’s family members, who then alerted the police. Odutola stated that officers from the Ilogbo Division responded swiftly to the report and took the suspect into custody for what is currently being treated as an attempted murder case.

In describing the incident, Odutola said: “The husband doused his wife’s body with petrol and set her on fire with a match. Witnesses to the incident immediately rushed her to the hospital.

“Upon receiving the report, our detectives quickly took action and arrested the husband, who has since been detained.

The arrest follows what seems to be a deeply troubling domestic conflict. The community is shocked by the event, which has raised concerns about the safety and well-being of individuals in situations of domestic violence.

The circumstances surrounding the confrontation between Olubunmi Johnson and Kikelomo are still under investigation.

More updates are expected as authorities continue their inquiry into the motive and details of the incident.
